Skopje

Skopje is the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Today Skopje is a melting pot of political, economic, and cultural activities in Macedonia, with a population of over 600,000 (2002), covering an area of 1.818 km2. The Skopje region is the center of the major crossroads of the Republic of Macedonia, with the most favorable traffic infrastructure. During the last years, the city has shown a significant economic growth, with its gross domestic product (GDP) per capita increasing at a fast pace. (GDP per capita: $10,500 (2011).

The City of Skopje with its Spatial Planning and Organization Department is responsible for several key aspects relevant for the main goal of this project such as: Spatial plan on the territory of the City of Skopje, General Urban plan for the territory of the City of Skopje, Comments on the Detailed Urban plan, Prepares the yearly spatial report, Comments on the regulations referring the spatial and urban planning.

The City of Skopje is the project leader and coordinating city for the SINERGI project network of cooperation between city administration, experts, civic organizations and will work on management, organization and promotion of project results while promoting EU knowledge and experience in citizens' participation in the field of urban planning and development together with partner twinned cities Turin, Lisbon and Zagreb.

City of Skopje will contribute together with the Faculty of Architecture, UKIM in Skopje using its competencies and capacities in the organization of activities that would create a platform for exchange of knowledge that should bring together local authorities, experts and research community, civil organizations and citizens in a creative and open debate. City of Skopje will be direct beneficiary and will implement the deliverable results from the SINERGI project.
